SIDNEY BARNSLEY (1865-1926) - ARTS & CRAFTS SETTEE a large oak settee, the back with vertical chamfered splats and carved chevron design. With curved sides and arms and exposed pegs and joints, and with a wooden seat with leather straps. 86ins (218cms) across, 28 1/2ins (72cms) deep, 38ins (97cms) high *This settee descended through the Gimson family until the 1980's, when it was given to Sir Anthony Denny Bt, who lived at Daneway House in the late 20thc, and subsequently at the Priest's House, Muchelney. Sidney Barnsley and Ernest Gimson both used Chamfering on their items, which was inspired by the structure of farm wagons.
